The liberalization of the energy market is overdue , experts who gathered at one of the largest energy forums in our country believe. It is scheduled to begin in July this year, and through it, consumers will be able to freely choose their energy supplier and negotiate terms with each other.
Experts agree that there should be liberalization of the energy market .
“The idea of liberalization is precisely to free up the last segment of the market, namely households to enter as active consumers, which on the one hand will bring more liquidity to the market, and on the other hand will give them the opportunity to choose offers that are most adequate for their needs,” commented Dr. Maria Trifonova, a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics at Sofia University (SU).
Experts believe that its introduction is overdue.
“We need to talk about normalizing the market. You can’t release something that doesn’t actually exist. This is a belated measure that I would introduce tomorrow, if possible, ” added Eng. Dimitar Beleliev from the Bulgarian Electrical Engineering Association.
The reason is the lack of free supply and demand in the energy market at the moment.
“The main problems are that there is neither free demand nor free supply . 1/3 of consumers receive a fixed price, the remaining 2/3 have a ceiling on the price they pay. In this situation, there is simply no way to have a free market, there is no way for consumers to be stimulated to use energy when its price is lowest, and they simply consume it because they know that the price is fixed at any given time,” said Eng. Beleliev.
To make the process clearer , scientists from Sofia University have been conducting an information campaign for a year now , which reveals the effects of the introduction of liberalization.
“What would be the expected effects on the price of electricity and everything we do as analyses, to break it down, both visually and with these educational videos, to reach a wider circle of people,” noted Dr. Trifonova.
The third specialized forum of Investor.BG Energy of tomorrow was attended by both experts and company owners, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Energy.
