Politicians must show courage, believes Eng. Dimitar Beleliev, Chairman of the Board of the Bulgarian Association of Electrical Engineering and Electronics.
For Bulgaria, the only good development would be to build small and medium-sized solar power plants that are concentrated around populated areas. We have a network built for this purpose, we just need to make sure that these RES are not located, for example, in Smolyan, where consumption is quite low, but are located in and around the cities that consume, with the main consumer being Sofia. Transmission is saved, balancing is saved, construction of pointless transmission installations is saved. This was stated by Eng. Dimitar Beleliev, Chairman of the Board of the Bulgarian Association of Electrical Engineering and Electronics , in the program “The World is Business” with host Ivaylo Lakov.
“The greater the share of renewable energy in a system, the better it will be,” Beleliev believes.
“Any brakes we put on renewables – especially in our minds – are completely wrong.”
He pointed out that the state’s participation in the process as an incentive is zero. “The funds under all kinds of European programs are also designed so that they don’t happen,” the guest noted. And he gave as an example a program for business for about 200 million euros, which is currently underway and in which there is no interest, “because the conditions are designed so that no one is interested.”
According to the guest, business is operating as far as it is possible to make plans in the current geopolitical conditions.
“Sooner or later logic and the market will prevail. It is very difficult to make long-term predictions in the current situation.”
Regarding Bulgaria’s energy concept, Beleliev believes that the mix should be considered. “The entire system should work in sync. Renewable energy, for example, should not be opposed to nuclear energy,” he said.
Beleliev expressed the opinion that the topic for and against the closure of coal-fired power plants is untenable, since the decision to close them has already been made.
“The discussion is not whether these plants will work, but how to close them as painlessly as possible.”
In Beleliev’s words, politicians in our country must act boldly and with a mind for society, and not just for the political consequences for themselves of a given decision.
The guest also commented on the activities of AmonRa Energy. He said that the company is listed on the stock exchange because this is perceived as a signal by potential partners that they are dealing with a more reliable and proven partner that they can rely on.
