According to studies, electricity production from renewable sources in 2021 grew by over 8%, reaching 8,300 TWh – this is the fastest annual growth since the 1970s. Solar photovoltaic and wind energy contribute two-thirds of the total growth in green sources.
China alone produces almost half of the world’s electricity capacity from renewable sources (nearly 8,000 terawatt hours). The US generates 4,200 terawatt hours.
Solar systems are experiencing the fastest growth and increase in capacity construction rates. Renewable energy sources accounted for a full 29 percent of global electricity production at the end of 2020, and in 2021 they reached a record 38%. These numbers are expected to be even higher this year.
This year, the European Commission adopted a series of measures aimed at eliminating the EU’s dependence on Russian energy sources as quickly as possible. One of them is that from 2025, all commercial and public buildings must have solar panel roofs, and all new residential buildings – from 2029. The EU will provide 300 billion euros for the transition to green energy, the construction of energy infrastructure and new gas connections.
The good news for the development of ecological solar systems in Bulgaria is that changes to the law have been adopted, facilitating the construction of smaller photovoltaic installations. Companies will be able to install photovoltaic panels for their own consumption with a capacity of up to 5 megawatts (enough for 2,000 households) as quickly as possible. Until now, a lighter regime was only available for residential users installing up to 30 kW of panels, but the number of companies taking this path has grown rapidly from a few thousand in 2020 to tens of thousands in 2021.
