Dr. Eng. Dimitar Beleliev – Chairman of the Board of BASEL and CEO of AmonRa Energy, “Clean Energy”, 20.09.2023.
On August 1, photovoltaic power plants in our country overtook the Kozluduy NPP in electricity production with a share of 38.7% compared to 37.7% for the nuclear power plant. This is not unexpected and this trend both in our country and globally will continue. The world sees that fossil fuels are becoming more expensive and are also unecological, so it is logical to move towards “greening”. We need to part with some older capacities and it makes sense to replace them with new green ones. This said Dr. Eng. Dimitar Beleliev – Chairman of the Board of BASEL and CEO of AmonRa Energy in the program “Clean Energy” with host Veronika Denizova.
“There are infinitely many green capacities. In my opinion, their implementation will be delayed by purely technical problems that cannot be solved only by the desire of investors, so I assume that within 1/1.5 years the capacities that are currently available in Bulgaria will double and we will quite logically be surprised by the reverse data – when the nuclear power plant will exceed green energy. In my opinion, from 2025/2026 it will be news when the Kozluduy NPP produces more than the renewable industry.”
According to Beleliev, Bulgaria has a good distribution system and a system for organizing the consumption of electrical energy. What we need to do, however, is to create order in where and how to build such systems. According to the guest, green energy is very well developed in Western European countries, so we should draw from their experience and not make their mistakes.
“In Bulgaria, we are stumbling towards large projects and I think that this will lead to negative processes in the future. First of all, there is a great danger that they will become a burden on the system, since their balancing will be very difficult. Second, the peaks and drops in prices will deepen and from there there is a high probability that these projects will become financially unprofitable for their investors and this will affect the end user. So, in my opinion, the system operator should sit down and prepare a serious strategy to offer to the public for discussion.”
In addition to our country, AmonRa Energy also operates in other markets such as Romania, Serbia, Greece, North Macedonia, etc. In this regard, Beleliev shares that our country has good facilities and a somewhat good network, but despite this, other countries are developing faster and more effectively than us.
